Medical Terminology

This course is designed as an introductory course to provide the student with the knowledge and necessary vocabulary required for successful entry into the healthcare profession. The course begins with an overview of the basic elements of medical words, suffixes, and prefixes as related to surgical, diagnostic, and symptomatic. Progressive medical terminology moves toward body structure, integumentary systems, gastrointestinal systems, respiratory systems, cardiovascular systems, blood, lymph, and immune systems, musculoskeletal, genitourinary, female reproductive, endocrine and nervous systems. The session concludes with anatomy and physiology, pathology, diagnostic, symptomatic, and therapeutic terms. An overview of diagnostic, surgical, and therapeutic procedures is also provided.


Medical Coding

This course introduces students to coding of medical procedures and diagnosis, utilization and methods of ICD-9, CPT, HCPCS books. The course will also explore career paths for health insurance and reimbursement specialist. This class is a prerequisite for the Certified Professional Coders Exam.
Prerequisite: Medical Terminology or relevant job experience.

Medical Coding Exam Preparation

This course is to help you as you prepare for your certification examination. This course will prepare students for the outpatient, physician-based coding certifications: Certified Coding Specialist – Physician based (CCS-P) and Certified Professional Coder (CPC). The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) offers the CCS-P, and the American Academy of Professional Coders offers the CPC. Although the formats of the examinations are different, the commonality is that both assess your medical coding ability. Regardless of which examination you take, you will have to know how to assign medical codes to patient services and diagnoses. This course will prepare you with additional coding practice as well as a review of anatomy, terminology, reimbursement, and coding concepts in preparation.
Prerequisite: Medical Coding or relevant job experience.

Anatomy & Physiology

This course is designed to give the student currently enrolled in an Allied Health related program, or those interested in getting a head start in one of the Allied Health programs, the basic knowledge and understanding of the human body and its various systems and their function.  It is also a perfect review course for current Allied Health field employees.

Math for Allied Health

This course is designed to provide the student with types of skills necessary to perform the calculations and conversions used in the health care field. Basic skills such as working with fraction, decimals mathematical formulas are covered as well as conversions from standard measurements of ounces, quarts to milliliters, liters. Charts, graphs and scales are also covered to give the student a well rounded level of skill sets.

I.V. Therapy for LPN's

This course is designed to meet the statewide curriculum for the instruction of LPN's who practice IV therapy. The course meets the 40 clock hours requirement as defined by the Board of Nursing's position paper dealing with scope of practice. Prerequisites are unencumbered license, satisfactory performance evaluation and reference from supervisor.  4 CEUs are offered by TTC Murfreesboro.

Caregiver

This course is designed to provide the caregiver with the tools, skills and knowledge they need to fulfill their role a primary home caregiver in a safe and confident manner. Instruction is aimed at those individuals who are the primary caregiver in the home. Basic skills used in everyday settings focus on safety for both the patient and caregiver.

Nursing Assistant

This course is designed to give the student the knowledge and understanding needed to sit for the State Certified Nurse Assistant exam. All aspects of patient care are discussed and demonstrated. Students will be tested on their level of understanding and techniques. Students will complete at total of 132 hours of both instruction and clinical education. ALL STUDENTS MUST HAVE A BACKGROUND CHECK AND T.B. TEST BEFORE BEING ACCEPTED INTO THE PROGRAM.  

Introduction to Allied Healthcare

This course is designed to give prospective students interested in career in Allied Health fields a basic understanding of medical terminology, Anatomy & Physiology, and medical math.  These are three key areas of study every Allied Health Program contains.  Students entering an Allied Health program will have an advantage after taking this course.  The course will also feature presentation form our Allied Health instructors concerning their own programs. 

Central Supply Tech

Central Service practitioners perform duties in one or more functional areas of material management, supply, processing and distribution. Most environments include the technical functions of reprocessing, decontamination, disinfection, preparation, packaging, sterilization and distribution.  The body of knowledge associated with these highly technical functions is referred to as Central Service Technology.

Dental Assistant State Registry Course

Insurance Billing & Office Procedures

This course is designed to provide the student with an understanding of insurance billing and the various differences between individual insurance forms.  It will provide an in-depth look at the forms that must accompany all submissions.  As important as the correct forms are, the correct questions and information gathered by office staff are just as important in streamlining submission.  Office procedures will present the student with the importance of communication, records and follow up.

Job Ready Medical Office Personnel

This program prepares students to enter health-care facilities, doctor, dental, chiropractic offices and alike in a variety of positions.  Students will be multi-skilled with knowledge of insurance codes, medical billing practices, electronic health record, medical office administration skills, and patient in-take skills.
