Surgical Technology Course Description
The mission of the Surgical Technology Program is to provide an educational experience designed to produce Surgical Technologists, competent at the entry-level position, and successfully prepared to take the National Certification exam.

This course will train individuals to prepare the operating room, select and care for instruments, and assist the surgeon and the nursing team during surgery.

The program consists of six months of theory and lab practice and six months of clinical practice where the students receive supervised practice in real situations that occur in the natural setting.

After graduation from the program, students are eligible to apply to take the National Certifying Exam.

Admission Requirements:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Provide a regular high school diploma or GED transcript (must submit with application)
  • Complete TTCM application process
  • Provide letters of reference
  • Physical exam with proof of TB test and required immunization
  • Personal interview
  • Pass COMPASS Test

Students are subject to drug screening and criminal background checks based upon clinical affiliation agreements.

Course Description
Orientation: The development of surgery and the role of the surgical technologist.

Medical Terminology
: Knowledge of root words, prefixes, and suffixes.

Anatomy and Physiology
: The study of structures and functions, and the relation of one body part to another.
Surgical Technology
Microbiology: The study of pathogens and diseases caused by them

Pharmacology and Anesthesia
: Introduction to pharmacological and anesthetic agents and their use in the operating room.

Asepsis/Surgical Technology Fundamental
: Basic principles of preventing contamination of the operative field required for safety of the patient.

Fundamentals
: Fundamental equipment and supplies needed to do surgical procedures.

Surgical Procedures
: Discuss relevant anatomy for each specialty area and surgical procedures performed.

Job Skills
: Resume writing and interviewing.

Clinical
: Surgical case experiences in all specialty areas.

Diploma
: 1296 hours

Cost of training includes textbooks, supplies, personal items, liability insurance, and tuition. Financial Aid is available for those who qualify.
